This brooch is quite special - it is c. 1860 - 1870, a very early 'Mourning' pin which was a trend at its height during this time. A portion of the pin has been replaced by a new pin mechanism sometime in the early 20th century. Most all of these pin backs were replaced so that they were more secure when worn. The gold you see throughout the brooch is a finey aged rosey 14k gold with the leaves exhibiting a two toned yellow gold vermeil. A great collector's piece! Though you see prices for these across the board, this large and striking brooch is priced modestly below its retail worth. #2778.
